University students in Brazil have been learning about dignity and dignity rights and have created materials and activities for 9-year olds in schools in their community. They are teaching the kids about self-esteem and personal development, exclusion and discrimination, relationships and support, and the right to be respected as a child. Here they are playing a yarn game focusing on self-respect and respect for others.

If you’ve been hurt, badly, you may feel like your dignity is impaired. But it’s always with you, just as powerful as ever. “Dignity After Harm” is a booklet and a Zine to help people who have survived violence and trauma know that their dignity is intact and will give them strength to heal.

Dignity Now! has produced books explaining that all human beings are born equal in dignity and rights. The books are written to help young people understand their own equal self-worth and the legal systems in place to protect them. These books are currently available in English and French and we have new versions specifically for Asia, Brazil, and Haiti.

Next month, we’ll be launching a new, youth-led podcast series that explores how our everyday lives affect our inherent sense of dignity and worth. In each episode, our student hosts talk to experts, community leaders, and other thoughtful people – including sometimes their friends! – to understand how our choices affect our dignity. We move the conversation beyond division, toward compassion and meaningful action.

A companion to the Child Dignity series, these books place the inherent and equal worth of all people at the center of our legal and human rights systems. Booklets are designed to be co-created with local communities.

In October, we are launching a series on the relationship between dignity and democracy. We explore how dignity and democracy are interconnected, why the right to vote is a dignity right, why it’s important to belong to a political community, and more.
